Randolph Mitchell, Sr., born in 1938 in Nansemond County, Va, to parents William Clearence Mitchell and Amanda Brown Mitchell, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at his home on July 28, 2024, after a long illness. Randolph is survived, by his devoted wife of 63 years, Vernell Thomas Mitchell of Suffolk, Va. He is also survived, by his two children, Randolph Mitchell, Jr. (Vonetta) of Florida, and Vera B. Mitchell of North Carolina. His youngest son, Marshalle Mitchell, preceded him in death.

He was preceded, in death, by his sister, Catherine Francis, and his brother, William M. Mitchell, Sr. He is survived by his sister, Mary Lee Chapman of Suffolk, Va. His sisters-in-law Alice Mitchell of Suffolk, Va., and Estelle White (Wallace) of Decatur, Ga., and brothers-in-law Earl Thomas (Yvonne) of Churchland, Va., and Hucless Thomas, Jr. (Melinda) of Hobson, Va.

Randolph leaves behind four grandchildren: Marquita Coleman (AJ), Winston Mitchell, and Mikayla Mitchell. Shawricka Mitchell, another grandchild, also preceded him in death. He was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, as well as a host of beloved and special nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Gates of Heaven Church of God in Christ, 114 Beech Street, Suffolk, Va., 23434, at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2024, followed by an interment at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, Va., 23434. with Rev. Dr. Sylvester Silver, Sr., officiating. Funeral services will be provided by Crocker Funeral Home.
