Man in arrested in connection with Thanksgiving House Fire

According to a media release from Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Suffolk Police arrested an adult male on suspicion of attempted arson and other charges after a house fire on Independence Ct on Thursday afternoon. Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to the 100 block of Independence Ct. at 2:21 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire at the residence.
According to Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Carlton Turner, 32, of Suffolk, was charged with arson of a dwelling and is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. According to the WTRJ website, Turners is being held on charges of:
- Two counts of Traffic — Hit and Run, Accident Report: Damage over $250, driver fails to report or leave note;
- Traffic — Reckless Driving: Endanger life or limb;
- Arson, Explosives, Bombs: Occupied dwelling/church, burn and Vandalism;
- Damage Property: Intentionally, damage/destroy any property or monument < $1000.
Upon arrival at 2:27 p.m., first responders found light smoke coming from a two-story home. Firefighters located and quickly extinguished a fire inside the residence. The fire was under control by 2:40 p.m.
The fire caused limited fire damage and moderate smoke damage. No one else was found inside the home.
The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the man arrested by police as a person of interest in connection with the fire.
