Becky Spivey Salp, 85, of Suffolk, daughter of the late Jack and Agnes Spivey, died on February 5, 2025. She was known by close friends and family as “Dinah.” She grew up in the Whaleyville area and graduated from Whaleyville High School. She retired from teaching after many years of service at the Quantico Dependent School System. She also taught in Alexandria, VA, Neenah, Wisconsin and Zweibrucken, Germany. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church in Suffolk.
Becky was a very proud Hoo and loved watching and cheering on UVA men’s basketball. She loved her summers living at the family beach house in Kill Devil Hills, and the highlight of the summer was a family gathering over the 4th of July when she would deck the house in stars and stripes and treat everyone to her famous coconut “flag” cake with strawberry stripes and blueberry stars.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Thomas F. Salp, two sons, Christopher Thomas Salp (Karla), Andrew Broadwater Salp (Jill), and two beloved grandsons, Evan Broadwater Salp and Benjamin Woods Salp. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jack Spivey and Helen Buffkin.
