20 under 40 Nominations Now Open

The Suffolk News-Herald announced on Feb. 5, 2025, that it has opened nominations for the 20 Under 40 Class of 2025. The 20 Under 40 awards seek to recognize Suffolk’s’ emerging young leaders in workforce, entrepreneurship, and community service. The eligibility to receive a “20 Under 40” award are as follows:
- Any person who will be under the age of 40 on June 1, 2025, is eligible.
- If a person turns 40 on or before June 2, 2025, they are not eligible.
- The nominee must live, work, and/or make significant contributions to the Suffolk community.
What is the Suffolk News-Herald looking for?
People in Suffolk whose achievements in the workforce or the community stand out from their peers. We’re looking for leaders who are excelling beyond what would be expected. We’re seeking influencers and people who are rising leaders in the community.
The nominee should demonstrate success in one or more of the following areas:
- Workforce: Takes charge and motivates within their place of employment. Demonstrates leadership, takes initiative, and seeks innovative solutions to work-related challenges.
- Entrepreneurship: Demonstrates ability to utilize available resources, knowledge, and connections with community members to create value in Suffolk through the launching of their own business or nonprofit ventures.
- Community Service: Provides valuable service by contributing significant time and energy to the community, including but not limited to volunteering and civic engagement.
How do I nominate?
Nominations can be submitted online beginning on Feb. 5, 2025, and end at 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2025. To submit a nomination, visit https://www.suffolknewsherald.com/suffolks-2025-20-under-40-nominations/
Can I nominate someone by email or another way?
Only nominations submitted through the online portal will be considered.
What do I need to nominate someone?
You should have the following ready when you start filling out the nomination form:
- The nominee’s full name, mobile number, email address, current employer, and job title
- Complete the nomination questionnaire, including a description of why the nominee should be considered for the 20 under 40 recognition.
- Basic job and resume information, although more detail is appreciated.
- Up to two letters of recommendation. You do NOT need letters, but should one choose to submit a letter, it must be uploaded to your nomination form if you choose to include them. Letters submitted separately will NOT be considered.
- Any other materials, such as a resume or supporting information (not including letters of recommendation), collected into ONE document, either a Word file or PDF.
How will honorees be chosen?
A committee of Suffolk News-Herald staff will choose the 20 recipients.
How will honorees be recognized?
Beginning with the June 4 edition, honorees will be recognized in a feature story in Suffolk News-Herald, which will be published on the SNH website and social media accounts.
Are self-nominations accepted?
Self-nominations will not be accepted.
