The Suffolk Christian Academy Girls’ Junior Varsity Basketball team finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record. Their incredible season on the court has not only captured the attention of their school but also set a new standard for future teams to aspire to.
From the very first game, it was clear that this team was special. Led by Head Coach Kristy Cornette and Assistant Coach John Sullivan, the players combined skill, discipline, and an unshakeable commitment to one another. Whether on offense or defense, they played with unmatched intensity, showcasing exceptional teamwork that allowed them to dominate each of their opponents.
“The girls set goals prior to the start of the season and it’s always rewarding to achieve what you set out to accomplish,” said Coach Cornette “Their work ethic, determination, and team mentality is second to none. One of my goals as a coach is to ensure that each and every player grows and improves each and every day regardless of the outcome of the season. We did just that and that is what attributed to our success. Every time we won a game, we celebrated and then got back to work in the gym. Never satisfied, always growing.”
Four freshmen led the team throughout the season and were not only instrumental in the success of the team but also in the growth and development of the younger, less experienced Knights. Halle Crawford, Emery Garza, Jamielyn Pippin and Harper Sullivan not only led the team and the conference in the stat lines, but they also led as examples of great character and work ethic. As they move on to the Varsity level, they have begun a legacy and set a standard for the young players who follow.
While SCA’s freshmen will be missed, the future is bright for the JV Knights. Watch for up-and-coming players: Kassidy Maddox, who rounded out the starting lineup this year as a 6th grader, Parker Murphy, who is proving to be an excellent rebounder, and Charleigh Eason, who has proven herself as a defensive thorn in the side of her opponents.
The team’s success didn’t come without its challenges, however. They faced strong competition in several games and had to dig deep to secure victories. Whether battling back from a deficit or executing clutch plays in the final moments of a tight game, the Girls’ JV Basketball Team displayed mental toughness that would make any coach proud.
Off the court, the team has built lasting bonds, supporting each other through the highs and lows of the season. The camaraderie between players is evident in their celebrations after every win and their consistent effort to improve. It’s clear that the team’s chemistry has been a driving force behind their success.
The 2025 Girls JV Basketball Team will be remembered for their grit, resilience, and the unforgettable mark they’ve made on the school’s sports legacy. Here’s to a season of excellence and many more to come.
