Suffolk Public Library awarded over $55,000 in grants

SUFFOLK – Suffolk Public Library is excited to announce that it has received two grants totaling over $55,000 to expand its impact in the community.
The first grant, totaling $32,384, came from The Blocker Foundation, an organization with a mission to inspire, empower, and support the Hampton Roads community, through wholesome nourishment, safe shelter, educational opportunities, economic opportunities, and a healthy environment in which all may thrive.
The funds from the Blocker Foundation will go toward:
- Two electric library book bikes for outreaches to serve communities where the Library2Go cannot reach and for accessible spaces like parks, festivals, and Neighborhood Walks.
- A cargo bike locker to store the book bikes during off-season and between outreach.
- Additional funding to help SPL purchase TonieBox kits and figurines.
The second grant, totaling $25,000, came from the Obici Healthcare Foundation which has a mission to support overall project needs that promote health and wellness in the Western Tidewater area.
The funds from the Obici Healthcare Foundation will go toward:
- Lactation pod for North Suffolk Library to provide a space for families with new born children.
- Communication technology to provide accessibility options for the diverse needs of patrons.
Morgan Memorial Library is located at 443 West Washington Street. North Suffolk Library is located at 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. Chuckatuck Library is located at 5881 Godwin Boulevard.
