Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Interchange Improvements Project are scheduled to implement daily single-lane closures on Route 58 West, reducing the travel lanes from three to two between 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. the following day, beginning as early as March 3. The westbound closure is scheduled to reopen each day for the afternoon peak travel period from 3 until 7 p.m. to help mitigate congestion during this time. The closures will begin just west of the weigh station and continue to the Route 58 median crossover at the SPSA entrance (Bob Foeller Drive).

Existing eastbound daily single-lane closures remain in effect between 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. Additional intermittent, temporary lane closures or brief stoppages are possible in both directions during the entire construction phase and are scheduled for periods of low traffic volumes when necessary. Later in the project, additional long-term, single-lane closures are expected in both directions as crews transition flyover construction activities toward the median and western lanes.

All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.

VDOT says the SPSA Interchange Improvements Project is designed to improve safety on Route 58 by constructing a dedicated flyover ramp for eastbound traffic seeking to enter the SPSA entrance at Bob Foeller Drive. The ramp will descend and merge with the existing westbound entrance to the SPSA facility from Route 58, closing the existing at-grade median crossing and eliminating crossover traffic conflicts with westbound traffic.
