8 displaced in residential fire

SUFFOLK- Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 100 Blk. of Bute Street for a reported residential duplex building on fire. Emergency Communications dispatched the incident at 11:51 a.m.
Battalion 1 arrived at 11:54 a.m. to find smoke showing the rear of the building. While Engine 2, Ladder 3 and Rescue 1 searched the building for fire and occupants, Engine 1 found active fire in the first floor duplex and crawly space. All occupants evacuated prior to arrival of firefighters. The fire was placed under control at 1:01 p.m. Heavy fire damage occurred to the first floor duplex and moderate smoke damage occurred to the second floor duplex.
There are no injuries and 8 adult occupants are displaced due to the fire. The American Red Cross was not needed to assist the displaced occupants. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office with Fire Marshal 7 leading the investigation.
