Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a fatal two-vehicle accident on the southbound lanes of Interstate 664 near College Drive in Suffolk.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Corey L. B. Knight, 39, of Chesapeake, was driving a 2023 Volkswagen GTI when he pulled over to the right shoulder, activated his hazard lights, and exited the vehicle. During this time, Demarquese Larnell Hayes, the driver of a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer, drifted onto the shoulder, striking both Knight and his vehicle. Knight died upon impact.

There is no evidence suggesting that alcohol, drugs, or speed were factors in the crash. The Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney has been notified and will determine if charges will be filed upon completion of the investigation.
