With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles Earl Browning, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, who departed this life on December 13, 2024, at the age of 81.
Born in Bristol, VA, and raised in Whaleyville, Virginia, Charles was a man of faith, conviction, and unwavering loyalty. He carried with him a strong sense of integrity, and those who knew him will remember his lighthearted demeanor, dedication to public service, and quick wit—always able to make any situation seem a little more bearable.
Charles proudly served his community for over 30 years with the Suffolk Sheriff’s Department, where he was known for his professionalism, kindness, and steadfast commitment to justice and compassion. His career was marked not just by his dedication to duty, but by the relationships he built along the way.
He was also a faithful and active member of Southside Baptist Church, where he shared his love for the gospel and served with a joyful heart. Whether through his church, his work, or his everyday interactions, Charles left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He was a steady presence and a source of comfort—always ready to lend a hand or get into a little good trouble. His sense of humor and gentle spirit brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Above all, Charles was a devoted follower of Christ. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service in the lives of all those he touched. Through his daily actions, he taught the values of conviction, dedication, and discipline.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Southside Baptist Church on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Charles are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Southside Baptist Church in his memory.
