Dear Editor,

I am writing as a concerned resident of Suffolk about the growing traffic congestion that’s severely affecting our community. As new homes and businesses continue to be built, roads like North Main Street, Godwin Boulevard, and Bridge Road are becoming more crowded. This surge in traffic is making daily commutes more stressful, time-consuming, and, most importantly, unsafe.

Our city’s roadways were not designed to handle the traffic volume we are experiencing today. This problem is especially evident during rush hours when traffic backs up for miles, creating long delays and posing serious safety risks. Accidents have become more frequent, and the situation is worsening daily.

To address this issue, we need a comprehensive approach to improve our infrastructure. Expanding key roads like North Main Street and Bridge Road by adding lanes will help accommodate the growing number of vehicles. Optimizing traffic signals along buddy corridors such as Godwin Boulevard can reduce delays and improve traffic flow, especially during rush hour. On top of that, enhancing public transportation options, like expanding bus routes and offering more frequent service, would provide an alternative to driving, reduce the number of cars on the roads, and help make our community more sustainable.

Suffolk is a growing city, which is a positive development. However, we must ensure that our infrastructure keeps up with this growth. Let us not wait until traffic congestion becomes even more problematic. I urge city officials to prioritize these necessary improvements before the situation worsens.
