Arthur Towle Davis

Arthur Towle Davis (Art) passed away on March 28, 2025. He was born April 30, 1932 and raised in the farming country around Broughton, Illinois to the late Arthur and Cleda Davis. Arthur joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1949 and retired in 1977. Joining the Corps is what brought Arthur to Suffolk, Virginia, which he would call home for the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Frances (Bobbie) McBride Davis and his three sons, Steven M. Davis and wife Jennifer of Florahome, FL, John A. Davis and wife Georgia Carolyn of Gallatin, TN, and Christopher T. Davis of Norfolk, VA. He was grandfather to Moyer McBride Davis and Campbell McArthur Davis of Gallatin, TN.

Arthur proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 28 years. He spent most of his career as an enlisted Marine with ranks from Private (Pvt) to Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGySgt, E-9). He was given a commission to Lieutenant during the Vietnam Conflict and retired as a Captain. He was a member of West End Baptist Church.

The family invites you to join them for a graveside service to be held March 31, 2025 at 11am at Holly Lawn Cemetery by Rev. Dale Peterson. There will be no visitation; the family will receive friends at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Trust of West End Baptist Church, 105 St. James Ave. Suffolk, VA 23434. R.W. Baker & Co.
