150 Gallon Fuel Spill at Lowe’s Import Center in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, VA – A tractor-trailer accident at the Lowe’s Import Distribution Center on Enterprise Drive on April 10, 2025, resulted in a fuel spill that impacted a nearby waterway. According to a media release, Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the incident in the 2000 block of Enterprise Drive at 12:53 p.m. following reports of the spill.
The accident, which occurred in the truck lot at the distribution center at 2300 Enterprise Dr., led to approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel and engine oil flowing into a nearby storm drain, which subsequently affected a retention pond in the area.
According to the release, Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews arrived on the scene and immediately began assessment and mitigation efforts. Their initial actions included securing the leak and creating a dam at the storm drain to prevent further contaminants from entering the natural waterway.
A hazardous materials cleanup company was promptly notified and dispatched to the location. Upon their arrival, they initiated the cleanup process, focusing on the proper containment and cleanup of the affected area to prevent further spread and contamination.
The incident has triggered a coordinated response from multiple local and state agencies. The Department of Environmental Management (DEM), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and City of Suffolk Public Works personnel have all been notified and are collaborating to manage the situation and ensure the proper remediation of the impacted environment.
