SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a residential structure fire Wednesday afternoon in the 2000 block of Bleakhorn Road.
The Suffolk Emergency Communications Dispatch Center received the call at 4:03 p.m., and the first unit, Car 1, arrived on the scene at 4:10 p.m. Firefighters found moderate smoke coming from a two-story home, with flames venting from a second-floor window and additional smoke visible from the attic.
Crews launched an aggressive interior attack and completed a search of the residence. No residents were found inside, though a cat was located during the search. However, the cat later died.
Firefighters contained the blaze to a single room on the second floor and the attic space above it. The room sustained heavy fire damage, the attic moderate fire damage, and the entire second floor suffered heavy smoke damage. The fire was brought under control by 4:35 p.m.
No injuries were reported among firefighters or residents. Two adults were displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office.
