SUFFOLK, Va. — A Suffolk man is in custody following a two-day effort by police to apprehend a suspect connected to a string of larcenies and hit-and-run incidents.
According to the Suffolk Police Department, officers were alerted on April 28 to an active theft taking place at the Lowe’s on North Main Street. Detectives quickly located a suspect vehicle traveling southbound on North Main, but the driver fled the scene and struck two vehicles during the attempt to evade police.
The following day, April 29, officers again located the suspect vehicle and confirmed the driver as the individual involved in the earlier larcenies. Once more, the suspect attempted to flee, resulting in a third hit-and-run crash. A witness later reported that the suspect crashed the vehicle and fled on foot.
Suffolk Police deployed multiple K9 units, which successfully tracked and apprehended the suspect, identified as Eric Morris, 40, of Suffolk. He was taken into custody and transported to Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where he was served with 20 outstanding warrants from both Suffolk and Chesapeake. Police said additional charges related to previous larcenies are forthcoming.
Morris is currently being held without bond.
