The Suffolk Police Department announced its 2025 Citizens Feedback Survey on May 19. The survey will use anonymous citizen comments to help the department recognize its strengths and weaknesses.

SPD Public Information Officer Mandy Bartholomew said it’s been about four years since they last released the survey.

According to a press release, “The Department believes that the citizens of Suffolk should be free from fear of crime and be comfortable in their neighborhoods.”

Citizens can express thoughts about crime in the city and anything they’d like the department to do differently or start implementing to make them feel safer.

The survey can be accessed on SPD’s homepage or the department’s Facebook page. QR codes to the survey will also be posted in the Police Headquarters, Police Precinct II, City Hall, Morgan Memorial Library, and the North Suffolk Library. Paper copies of the survey are available at Police Headquarters or Suffolk Police Precinct II.

An additional My90 survey is sent to all eligible calls for service. The survey asks questions specifically about police interaction and how the call was handled. Results from the survey are reviewed annually.

Police Chief Danny Buie said they get very few responses that share negative interactions with officers. Most of the negative feedback is about response time.

“One thing we can always work on is responding in a timely manner,” he said. “That’s what I see a lot of, is ‘it took them a long time to get here.’”

In the first quarter of 2025, the My90 survey received 78 responses, with 65% stating they view SPD very positively based on their offer interaction. 43 out of 53 people said they received the help they needed.

39% of respondents stated theft is their top safety concern, and 59% said they want increased patrol car visibility to improve safety.
