Suffolk offices to close for Memorial Day

In observance of Memorial Day, Suffolk City offices will be closed Monday, May 26. Normal operations will resume Tuesday, May 27, at 8:30 a.m.

The Suffolk Public Works Department will collect trash as scheduled from May 27-30. TFC Recycling will also maintain its regular collection routes during that period. Trash must be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day. For more information, contact Public Works at 757-514-7630.

The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk and the Regional Landfill will be open Monday, May 26, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Suffolk Transit will not operate on Memorial Day.

All Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Centers — Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington and Mack Benn Jr. — will be closed Monday. The East Suffolk Recreation Center, Curtis Milteer Recreation Center and Bennett’s Creek Recreation Center will also be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. The Parks & Recreation Administration Office will follow the same schedule.

City parks — Lone Star Lakes, Lake Meade, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek — will remain open on Memorial Day, though no park attendants will be on duty.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday at 10 a.m.

All Suffolk Public Library locations — Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, and Chuckatuck — will be closed on Monday. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk will reopen on Tuesday at 10 a.m., and the Chuckatuck Library will reopen on Monday, June 2, at 10 a.m.

The Suffolk Visitor Center will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum remains closed for construction.

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will be unmanned on Monday, though the airfield, self-service fuel island and restaurant will remain open.
