Suffolk firefighter arrested in connection to arson

Suffolk firefighter Steve T. Jurnigan was arrested Friday, May 23 by the Suffolk Department of Fire & Rescue’s (SFR) Fire Marshal’s Office.

Jurnigan was charged with the following criminal charges:

Maliciously Burn or Destroy (f)
Intentionally Destroy Property(f)
Assault and Battery (m)
Unauthorized use of an auto(f)

City officials said Jurnigan has been employed with SFR since 2005 and he has been placed on administrative leave without pay. Additional charges are pending. Jurnigan is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.

Suffolk Fire Marshal Office is the lead agency for this investigation. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
