Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews are on the scene of a natural gas leak at the intersection of Godwin Boulevard and Burnetts Way. The incident occurred earlier today when a contractor struck a gas line near the intersection.
As a precaution, Route 10/Godwin Blvd northbound lanes have reopened to traffic. Southbound lanes and Centerbrooke Ln remain closed at this time. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as significant delays are expected.
Virginia Natural Gas is en route, and the closure is expected to remain in place for an extended period while crews work to repair the gas line.
“Hospital operations are normal at this time. We are assured that ambulances and other emergency vehicles on their way to the hospital will be allowed through, as will motorists driving to the emergency department.” a Sentara Obici spokesperson confirmed.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
