Fire damages Suffolk home, displaces three residents

A fire early Friday morning heavily damaged a two-story residence in the 200 block of Pearl Street and displaced three occupants, according to Suffolk Fire & Rescue.
Emergency Communications dispatched fire crews at 1:56 a.m. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 2 a.m. to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the home’s second floor.
Crews entered to locate and extinguish the fire that had spread into the attic. During a search of the home, firefighters rescued two cats. One of the cats later died.
The fire was brought under control at 2:22 a.m. The three occupants who were home at the time were evaluated by medics and declined transportation to the hospital. The second floor and attic sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.
No injuries to firefighters were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office. Fire Marshal 2 and Fire Marshal 6 are leading the investigation.
