Two Boaters Rescued After Getting Stuck in Mud on Knotts Creek

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded Wednesday, June 25, to a report of boaters in distress in the 2100 block of Soundings Crescent Court, ultimately rescuing two individuals who had become stranded in the mud at low tide on Knotts Creek.

The Suffolk Emergency Communications Center dispatched the incident at 2:51 p.m. Engine 11 arrived on scene at 2:55 p.m. and located two boaters whose vessel had become immobilized in shallow mudflats behind the residence.

Firefighters deployed multiple Zodiac rescue boats and dispatched rescue swimmers from the shore and Fire Boat 1 to reach the boaters. According to city officials, crews made contact with the individuals at 4:24 p.m.

One boater was brought ashore by first responders, while the second was able to free the vessel with firefighters’ assistance. No injuries were reported.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue officials credited coordinated marine and land-based efforts with the successful rescue.
