Violet Jean Jones Albertson, 70, “The Candy Lady” as she was known to most people in the Suffolk and Franklin areas, passed on to be with God Monday, Oct. 18, 2010. Violet was the seventh of 11 children born to the late Dewey and Claudine Jones, of Suffolk, Va. Violet Jean was also predeceased by her three sisters, Thelma Atkins, Jackie McCoy Branch and Mildred Jones.

She left behind her son, Louis Albertson, whom she loved more than anyone on earth, and his friend, Blake Tucker. She was survived by brothers: Bill and wife, Elna Jones, Dewey Jr. and wife, Gayle Jones, Vernon and wife, Sue Jones, and Frank Jones; sisters: LaRue Brittle, Mollie and husband, Steve Fowler, Joni and husband, Gene Joyner and numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Carole Lowe.

She was a lifelong resident of Suffolk, Va., but more recently resided at East Pavilion, where she had spent the last year enjoying her new friends, dancing, playing bingo and giving out candy.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 in the R.W. Baker & Co Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. in Suffolk, followed by burial at the Jones-Lassiter Family Cemetery off of Airport Road. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
