Gladys V. Eley, 71, daughter of the late Peter Donnie Eley and Gladys Gatling Eley, was born on Jan. 28, 1939, in Suffolk, Va. She departed life on Oct. 30, 2010.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a son, James Steven Eley, of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Clarine Holland, of Suffolk, Va., Hilda Newsom, of Norfolk, Va., Thelma Smith (Johnnie), of University Heights, Ohio, and Norris Copeland (Horace), of Suffolk, Va.; three brothers, Leo Eley (Emily), of Suffolk, Va., Frank Eley, of Ashland, Mass., Jobie Eley (Shirley), of Forestville, Md.; sister-in-law, Louise Eley, of Suffolk, Va.; Mr. & Mrs. Stephen and Vernae Boyd and family, of Virginia Beach, Va., many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ms. Eley will be on view Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 1 to 7 p.m., and the family will receive guests from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m. in the Rev. Melvin R. Boone Chapel of the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
