The Suffolk Clean Community Commission will hold an Earth Month recycling drive Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bennett’s Creek Park.

“April is Earth Month. It’s an excellent time to commit to the fight for a cleaner, greener Suffolk,” said Hattie Lester, Suffolk Litter Control Coordinator. “We have to choose now to take a stand for a sustainable environment and manage our waste so that we can live in harmony with nature.”

Residents are encouraged to bring the following to be recycled: tires (12 per household); electronics; alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V); all types of paper, including mixed paper (magazines, catalogues and newspaper), cardboard and paper board; steel and aluminum cans; glass containers (bottles and jars); and all plastic bottles (#1 and #2).

Cintas will also be on hand to provide on-site shredding of Suffolk residents’ sensitive documents. There is a limit of three copy paper-sized boxes or three brown paper bags per person. Participants will be asked to stay with their documents until they’ve handed them to the Cintas driver in the truck.

Everyone who participates will receive a reusable shopping bag, as the Commission joins forces with the community to say NO! to plastic.
