Smithfield All-Stars win Regional Title

Championship: Smithfield Recreation Association’s Pinto All-Star team won the South Region/East Zone championship on Friday at Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association. Smithfield went 7-1 in the tournament and beat Western Branch Gold twice in the championship games. Smithfield advances to the PONY Super Regional Tournament in High Point, N.C.

Smithfield Recreation Association won the PONY South Region/East Zone Pinto (coach-pitch, ages 7-8) All-Star Tournament last Friday capping a week of games involving 23 teams at Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association.

Smithfield won the regional title with a 7-1 record, having to go through the loser bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Smithfield topped Western Branch Gold in back-to-back games in the finals, winning game one 8-7 and the final game 12-8, earning the Smithfield All-Stars a team trophy nearly as tall as some of the players. Each player was awarded an individual trophy, a medal and a pin.

Smithfield and Western Branch qualify to compete in the Super Regional Tournament in High Point, N.C. starting on July 15.

This was the first Smithfield team to win a Pinto regional championship and the first Smithfield Pinto team in over a decade to win any tournament.

The Smithfield All-Stars are Hank Bauer, Connor Bowman, Dylan Conyers, Logan Deese, Trey Fiebelkorn, Gavin Gregory, Ty Hubert, Tucker Millikin, Jordon Mumford, Kelby Saunders Jr., Douglas Williams and Shane Wolfe. The coaches are Scott Deese, Chuck Bauer, Andrew Gregory and Aaron Millikin.
