A member of a violent gang that operated in North Suffolk and Portsmouth was sentenced this week for a variety of gang charges, including attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Draindell Domonta Bassett Jr., 23, of Portsmouth, was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison by U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson.

According to documents presented in court, several members of the Bounty Hunter Bloods/Nine Tech Gangsters street gang had an ongoing feud with a rival who was a member of the Crips. Bassett and other gang members searched for the rival gang member in order to kill him and found him in the Burbage Grant area of Suffolk.

Bassett and the others chased after the Crip with a knife, according to the court documents. He jumped into the vehicle of a stranger and directed her to drive off quickly.

But before she could, the Bounty Hunter Bloods members caught up to the car, kicked dents into the doors and tried to drag their rival out of the car. The car then sped away, and the Crip was able to escape without harm.

Bassett also was involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics, according to a press release from the court.
