There are few answers in the investigation into a fatal vehicle crash on Monday night that involved a pedestrian.

Police say 22-year-old Justin Wayne White, of the 900 block of Portsmouth Boulevard, was lying in the roadway in the 500 block of East Pinner Street, directly in front of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority headquarters, when he was struck and killed by a 26-year-old Suffolk woman driving a 1999 Infiniti G20 eastbound on the road.

The accident was reported about 9:27 p.m., according to a police report, but family members said they were talking to him on the telephone at least 10 minutes after that.

White was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. The driver’s vehicle suffered minor damage to the undercarriage.

At White’s home on Tuesday afternoon, family members said they had heard several different versions of the accident and did not know why he would have been lying in the middle of the road.

Police had questioned several of them about the last time they talked to him, they said.

They did not want to comment further.
