Calvin Lewis Boone

Calvin “The Mayor” Lewis Boone, 62, of the 22 block of Frances St., Newport News, Va., passed away Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012. He was the son of the late William Boone and Curly Mae Brown Boone of Nansemond County. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Bubba” Boone Jr. and Charles Boone.

He was a 1969 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He attended Paul D. Camp Community College and received an associate degree in air conditioning maintenance. He retired from Ball Metal Container Group after 32 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1975. Calvin was a volunteer for United Way.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Diggs Boone married for 29 years, and two daughters, Chasity Boone and Charity Boone, of Newport News, Va.; one grandson, Di’Andre Boone, of Newport News, Va.; three sisters, Evelyn Simpson (Roger), of Suffolk, Va., Virginia Small, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mary Francis McCray (Joe), of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Edward Boone, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Raymond Boone, Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sister-in-laws, Louise Diggs, of Suffolk, Va., Toni Diggs, of Suffolk, Va., Mary Brown (Charles), of Suffolk, Va., Wilma Elbouhnini (Hassan), of Mitchellville, Md., and three brothers-in-law, Benjamin Diggs (Hosanna), of Greensboro, N.C., Vernon Small, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Kenneth Wilson, Mitchellville, N.J.; one aunt, Frankie Brown, of Bronx, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2012, in East End Baptist Church, 523 E. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434, with the Rev. Mark Croston officiating. Crocker Funeral Home Inc. is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.crockerfuneralhomne.com.
