Mitchell Pollard Hunter, 85, passed away Nov. 26, 2012.

He was born in Cofield, N.C., the son of the late Lillie Tomlin Hunter and Nelson Monroe Hunter. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Maxey Hunter; his son, Mitchell P. Hunter Jr.; and his brother, Charles Hunter. He retired after 46 years as a postal carrier for the Windsor Post Office. Mitch was a member of Windsor Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Finance Committee chairman. He was a member of the Windsor Purdie Masonic Lodge No. 170 for 64 years. He served as Past Worshipful Master and Secretary. He was a member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department for 62 years, serving as the treasurer for 52 years. He was also active in the Windsor Ruritan Club and formerly served on the board of directors at Isle of Wight Academy.

Mitch is survived by his daughter, Carol Elizabeth Hunter Nease and husband, Jeff, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Amber Johnson and Brad Johnson; step-grandchildren, Ryne, Emily, Mike and Paige; step-great-grandchild, Emma; sister, Dorothy Britt and husband, Warren, of Midlothian, Va.; and sister-in-law, Evalyn Hunter, of Chester, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Bryan Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Wednesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be held prior to the visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
