The real threat to America’s children

President Barack Obama’s inauguration speech was soaring, a clarion call.

“Our journey is not complete until all our children, from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia to the quiet lanes of Newtown, know that they are cared for, and cherished, and always safe from harm. That is our generation’s task — to make these words, these rights, these values of life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness — real for every American….”

News flash for the president: The rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are not ours to give, nor are they the government’s. They come from the Creator, as our founding forefathers noted in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Aside from ignoring this important truth, how could the President speak those lofty words with a straight face?

Though politicians’ words have become extraordinarily duplicitous in recent years, surely Barack Obama’s 2013 inaugural address last week is a new low. Is he serious? He, the most pro-abortion President in history, is now expressing noble sentiments for life and liberty in front of the whole country.

His words are at best totally insensitive to the 40-year struggle of the majority of Americans who identify themselves as pro-life. At worst, they are the ultimate in cynical crassness. Does he really think we believe him? Perhaps he is so taken with his self-appointed role as savior that his soul has been hardened against the scientifically indisputable fact that life begins at conception.

President Obama blatantly ignores the reality that he himself is precisely the biggest barrier to making the right to life “real … for every American.”

Consider his record: He has worked unceasingly to expand funding of, and access to, abortion, using the bully pulpit of his office to advocate for it. He rescinded the “Mexico City Policy,” and he threatened to veto the entire federal spending bill (thereby forcing a government shutdown), rather than accept a provision that cut funding to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

His most touted achievement, the so-called Affordable Care Act, forces taxpayers, businesses, religious institutions and insurance companies to fund elective abortions despite conscientious objection, or be penalized. That mandate mutilates America’s cherished right to religious freedom.

Obama’s record ensures the youngest of our children are precisely not “safe from harm.” The staggering result of Roe v. Wade is 55 million abortions, almost 18 percent of our entire population, with approximately one abortion happening every 94 seconds.

How can the President justify spending so much of his time and effort and taxpayers’ money to force increased access to abortion?

In our country today, the most endangered Americans are those in the womb. President Obama and his administration repeatedly raise their voices not to “defend the right to life and liberty” of these innocent American lives, but to ensure they continue to be the most threatened.

Using high-sounding words to make a mockery of the truth is beyond the pale. Barack Obama claims the mantle of protecting our children and earns the title of the most untruthful, self-aggrandizing and lethal politician ever.
