Police: Man hit, choked sonPublished 11:14pm Friday, February 22, 2013
Suffolk police this week arrested a man accused of choking his son so hard that the teen vomited.
Michael David Amos, 41, of Summerville, S.C., is charged with abuse and neglect of children, cruelty and injuries to children and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The alleged incident occurred Aug. 11 at the Hilton Garden Inn in the 100 block of East Constance Road.
Police determined the man, who was 40 at the time, “had struck his juvenile son, age 14 at the time of the offense, in the face, in addition to choking him to the extent that the son vomited,” city spokeswoman Diana Klink wrote in an email.
The alleged motivation for the attack is that the teen was on the computer and his father wanted him off, Klink said.
The incident also allegedly occurred in the presence of a juvenile sibling, Klink said. The victim was treated at Sentara Obici Hospital.
