Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week nominees:

  • Greg Beale, sophomore for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball — He pitched four innings and allowed only three hits while throwing seven strikeouts in a 10-0 win that head coach David Mitchell praised as the Saints’ best team effort this year. Beale also supplied offense, going 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • Robert Fitzwater, sophomore for Nansemond River High School baseball — He threw seven strikeouts and went 2-for-3 at bat with an RBI in a 5-4 win over Lakeland High School, providing a strong performance despite both teams not giving their best showing.
  • Kayla Harbin, junior for King’s Fork High School softball — She went 5-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and five RBIs in a 19-0 victory over Oscar Smith High School, extending the team’s win-streak to nine.
  • Jefferson Knight, junior for Lakeland High School baseball — He went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and four RBIs to ensure that the Cavaliers got their first victory of the season, 6-3 over Indian River High School.
