Chances to win at Mutt Strut

Lucky winners of silent auction and raffle items at the Mutt Strut this Sunday could have the chance to get a free meal, have private dog-training lessons, get into shape at a local fitness studio or sail away to Margaritaville.

The fundraiser for the Suffolk Humane Society is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sleepy Hole Park. In addition to the silent auction, a pledge walk will raise money for the organization, and free activities include a variety of vendors and rescue organizations, free veterinary advice, acupuncture for dogs, contests and more.

“The silent auction includes some really wonderful prizes,” said Kay Hurley, director of community outreach for the humane society.

The prizes include a $500 discount on an event at The First Lady on West Washington Street; a gift certificate to C-Fit studio on North Main Street; $450 in private dog-training lessons at Churchland K9; several restaurant gift cards, and more.

But perhaps the most appealing prize up for grabs — at least if you’re a Parrothead — is a pair of tickets for prime seating at the sold-out July 13 Jimmy Buffett concert at Virginia Beach’s Farm Bureau Live.

The $300 pair of tickets, donated by Councilman Roger Fawcett and his wife Candy, will go to the lucky winner of a drawing held after July 4.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 normally. As a special for Mutt Strut, $20 gets the buyer six tickets rather than five.
