Suffolk Fire & Rescue and the Suffolk Police Department are on the scene of several transformer fires in the Bennett’s Pasture and Lee Farm Lane areas.

About 84 homes have been without power since about 5 p.m., following a series of transformer fires, according to Suffolk spokesperson Diana L. Klink.

Dispatchers received a call at about 5 p.m. notifying them that homes along Bennett’s Pasture Road, Lee Farm Lane and Bridge Road were without power because of several transformer fires, Klink stated in a press release.

When officials from Dominion Virginia Power arrived on the scene, they determined that a limb had dropped on a wire, which then broke, causing a chain reaction for about three miles, with a total of five transformers catching fire and two lines falling.

There were no injuries, and police rerouted traffic in the area.

Crews from Virginia Power are working to restore power to the area.
