Dorothy Mae Givens Shaw, of 1403 Sierra Drive, Suffolk, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Surry County and the daughter of the late Hampton Wade Givens and Jenny Rose Sills Givens.

She was a homemaker for seven daughters. Dorothy Shaw was a member of New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries, where she served as a deaconess and mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nathaniel Shaw; and seven siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory seven daughters, Maria Brickhouse, Teresa Alexander (Ronald), Gloria Shaw (Antoine), Ann Minggia (Grady), all of Suffolk, Denis Eley (Williams), of Windsor, Rebecca Shaw, of Suffolk; her adopted daughter, Rhonda Tucker, of Philadelphia; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; two aunts-in-law; two special nieces; one special nephew; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries officiated by Pastor Viola Parker. Interment will be in Holmes Cemetery in Spring Grove. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Crocker Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
