Two brush fires in the Holland area gave firefighters an exciting Sunday afternoon this weekend.

The call came in at 4:11 p.m. to the fires on Holland Road near Longstreet Lane and Pioneer Road. One was estimated to be about 50 yards by 50 yards, while the other was 10 to 15 yards long, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said in a press release.

The fires were about 50 yards apart and extended from the side of the road back through the brush. They were quickly extinguished without any injuries to firefighters, Klink said.

The Holland Volunteer Fire Department, which had volunteers training nearby, assisted city crews with the fires.

Traffic was briefly stopped on Route 58 westbound. The cause of the fires is undetermined, Klink said.
