The King’s Fork High School girls’ and boys’ swimming teams recorded wins over Lakeland High School on Saturday at the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club. For the Lady Bulldogs, it was their first taste of victory this season, as they won 91-55.

“They showed tremendous strength and heart, as many of them were swimming different events than normal,” King’s Fork coach Erin Manning stated.

Juniors Carlee Morse and Sonora Curliss each won two events and teamed up with freshmen Grace Merryfield and Hannah Marston to win the 200-meter medley relay and 200-meter freestyle relay.

“The most exciting event of the day was the 100 breaststroke, (in) which Marston came from behind to pull out a last-second win, her first of the year,” Manning stated.

The King’s Fork boys defeated Lakeland 119-48.

KF senior Hugh Long and junior Alexander Kaye each won two individual events and a relay.

The Bulldogs won all events except the 400-meter freestyle, which junior Cody Lawrence of Lakeland won.

“I was very pleased with the fast swims and the sportsmanship displayed,” Manning stated. “We had some new personal records, and it sets us up well for Indian River (High School).”

On Saturday, Lakeland faces Hickory High School at 1 p.m., and King’s Fork faces Indian River at 5 p.m. at the Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club.
