To the editor:

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Suffolk Police Department.

My wife and I had a tire blowout on our Ford Explorer on U.S. 58 about 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.

It was getting dark and thankfully one of Suffolk’s finest officers pulled up behind us while I was changing the flat tire. The officer’s presence made us feel so much safer, and he provided additional light, which helped me change the tire.

I shook the officer’s hand as we left, but unfortunately I did not ask him his name. The officer epitomizes the Suffolk Police Department mission statement, “Law Enforcement Excellence and Public Service through Partnership with our Community.”

I just want to say thank you.
