Johnson C. Smith University senior Calvin Mason of Suffolk has been a leader this season for the school’s golf team.

As the JCSU squad placed second at the recent Broncos Athletic Tournament in Fayetteville, N.C., Mason produced the lowest individual score for his team for the second straight event. He shot a 10-over-par 82.

In the Fayetteville State University Invite held on March 16, the Golden Bulls again placed second, and Mason led his team by producing the second-best individual score of the event – a one-over-par 73.

The most recent event that Mason and the Johnson C. Smith golf team have participated in is the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Northern Division Championship held in Chesterfield.

Mason finished tied for 23rd out of 43 golfers after shooting two rounds of 88 for a 32-over 176 two-day score. The Golden Bulls finished fifth out of eight teams competing.
