Man hurt in shooting

A shooting early Sunday morning injured a 23-year-old Portsmouth man in the leg, according to a city press release.

The man walked into the emergency room at Sentara Obici Hospital suffering from a wound to the left leg, which was not deemed life-threatening. The shooting reportedly occurred at the intersection of Wilson and Wellons streets.

The victim told police he was attending a party at a residence on Wellons Street and that gunshots were fired as partygoers were leaving the area.

Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone who has information is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or text the keyword SPDVATIP and the tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Tipsters never have to give their names or appear in court, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
