Ten applications have been lodged in the search for the organization’s first executive director, state Deputy Secretary of Transportation Grindley Johnson reported during a Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission meeting Thursday.

After round one was held in March, a second round of interviews will be held the week of June 8 before a candidate is selected for the position the following week, Johnson said.

Applications for the position close April 21.

Also during the meeting, commission members approved a resolution and project agreement advancing plans to widen Interstate 64 between Route 238 in Newport News and Route 199 north of Williamsburg.

Early engineering work will be funded with $6 million while financing is determined for the $214-million project. A construction contract could be awarded by October, the resolution states.
