Scholarships announced

The S. Delois Mayes Scholarship Foundation has announced the award of $6,500 in scholarships to high school seniors in Suffolk.

The foundation surpassed its initial goal of $2,000 and was able to award all six applicants, according to a foundation press release.

The scholarship awards were made possible by donors including Camelot Youth Association, Last Minute Flowers & Gifts, Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center, Tidewater Volleyball Association, The Duroncelay Family, and a host of family and friends.

The scholarship awards are as follows:

Vera Shinard, Nansemond River High School — $2,000

Imani Junious, King’s Fork High School — $2,000

Emily Carson, Nansemond River High School — $1,000

Lindsay Bagley, Lakeland High School — $500

Morgen Littlejohn, Nansemond River High School — $500

Lindsay Ransome, King’s Fork High School — $500
