After 20 years as a fixture in downtown Suffolk, the Shooting Star Gallery is closing after the owner’s personal and business move to the Eastern Shore.

“It’s sad on one hand, and exciting,” owner Brenda Wright said.

She and Nancy Kinzinger bought a cottage in Oyster last summer.

“The more we came over here and the more we spent time here, we just fell in love with the place,” Wright said. “There was just an energy there that I really liked. I decided I would open the one up over here and try to keep them both up, but I found pretty quickly I couldn’t.”

Wright and Kinzinger found a house in Onancock and closed on it last week.

“We hadn’t planned on moving so quickly” until they found the house, Wright said.

The Suffolk location of Shooting Star Gallery will close Aug. 15. Custom framing orders will cease on July 31.

There’s a silver lining in the cloud, though. All gift merchandise in the gallery will be on sale at 35 percent off starting Aug. 4 and continuing through the closing date.

Wright said she will continue to own the building in Suffolk and hopes to find a good business to rent it.

“It will have a second life,” she said. Central Dental Laboratory remains on the second floor of the business with Wright’s former business partner, Bill Barrera, operating it. He bought her part of the business several years ago.

The Suffolk gallery’s hours until closing are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Wright encouraged loyal customers and friends to visit the Eastern Shore location at 22 Strawberry St. in Cape Charles. Its hours will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays and Mondays. She’ll also offer custom framing there, she said.

“Cape Charles is not that far away for people that want to come and see us,” Wright said. “Life is good. We’re very fortunate we’re able to make this kind of move.”
