Larry D. Johnson passed away on Jan. 19, 2017, at the age of 67. He attended Booker T. Washington High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Vietnam. He received a Certificate of Honorable Discharge and the recognition as a Vietnam veteran.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus Johnson and Catherine G. Porter; brother, Michael Johnson; and sister, Edith Barrett.

Larry leaves behind a daughter, Dameron L. Jones (Cle), of Gaithersburg, Md.; five brothers, Ronald Johnson (Delores), Reginald Johnson (Juliet), and Lafayette Porter, all of Portsmouth, and Richard Porter and James Porter, both of Bridgeport, Conn.; two grandchildren, Naomi and Joshua; five stepdaughters; three nieces; and a host of other family members and friends.

The memorial service for Larry D. Johnson will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Gates of Heaven COGIC, 112 Beech St., Suffolk, VA 23434.
