Roy Evans

Roy Evans, 80, died peacefully May 12, 2017, with his wife, Jo Ann, by his side. He was born in Hertford, N.C. Roy was an active member of Magnolia United Methodist Church and the Savage Bible Class. He served as treasurer of the United Methodist Men for eight years and participated in the Prime Time Singers. Roy was stationed at Ft. Knox, Ky., and served in the Virginia Army National Guard for six years. He was a past member of Suffolk Cosmopolitan Club, serving as president, and also served as president of the Magnolia Ruritan Club. He was manager of B.F. Goodrich in Suffolk for 16 years, and served as a deputy in the Suffolk Sheriff’s Department, from where he retired after 20 years.

Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother, Winborne and Mary Evans, sister Della Nowell, and brothers, Lloyd and Vivian. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann H. Evans, one son, W.J. Clark Evans and wife, Ellen, of Midlothian, two grandchildren, William J.C. Evans II, of Watertown, Mass., and Lauren E. Evans, of Midlothian, and one brother, Robert O. Evans Sr., of Edenton, N.C., along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 16, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Suffolk. A funeral will be held Wednesday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at Magnolia United Methodist Church; a reception will follow. Burial will be private.
