Camilla Selby Burrus, 83, passed away Dec. 19, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital.
A native of Hyde County, N.C., she was born Nov. 26, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Dennis and Viola G. Selby.
Camilla was a graduate of East Carolina University, and she retired from teaching after 36 years. Many of those years were in the Suffolk City Schools at Forest Glen High School.
She is survived by her husband Robert Benjamin Burrus Jr.; two sons R. B. Burrus III and wife Linda, and G. Derrick Burrus and wife Terry, all of Suffolk; five grandchildren Stephanie Sutton, Amy Yost, Amanda Blankenship, Brandon Burrus, and Sara Burrus; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Edward C. Johnson on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St, Suffolk. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
