SUFFOLK — Annie Ruth Jones entered into eternal rest and peace on April 4, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Everetts County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Alexander L. and Rosa L. Bonner and the widow of Moses McKinley Jones. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie M. Smith.
Mrs. Jones attended East Suffolk High School and retired from Planters Peanut Company. She was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board and Trustee Board and served as church clerk. She was a member of the Pastor’s Aide, Sunday school, Youth Ministry and various other ministries. She was also a member of the Hollywood Civic League.
She leaves a legacy of love and precious memories to her daughter, Donna M. Johnson (James), of Detroit, Mich.,; her son, Curtis M. Jones Sr., of Suffolk; two sisters, Tillie Bonner, of Baltimore, Md., and Mattie Bonner, of Adelphi, Md.,; one brother, Alexander Bonner (Charlotte), of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Tasha S. Manley (Wayne), Curtis M. Jones Jr. (Tiphanie), Kevin D. Jones, Shayron L. Jones, all of Suffolk and Kayla M. Johnson, of Detroit, Mich.; six great-grandchildren, Kyan D. Manley, Xavier Q. Manley, Heaven Jones, Curtis M. Jones III, Dre’ Shawn Jones and Rickiya Jones; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A service to celebrate her life and homegoing will be held at noon Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Sixth Street Baptist Church, 324 Goodman St., Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Dr. James B. Williams Jr. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Tasha S. Manley, 924 Diggs Court, Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
