Police investigators seized approximately $38,000 in counterfeit purses, clothing and jewelry from two stores Thursday afternoon.
The special investigations unit raided two stores, Gina K’s Fashions, at 1024 Centerbrooke Lane, and Levinsons 14K, at 918 N. Main St., after several weeks of investigation, said city spokeswoman Debbie George.
Two people, Ik Chan Im, 53, of the 100 block of Avery Court, and Yong Suk Feaglen, of Tournament Court, were each charged with one count of trademark infringement and one count of conspiracy to commit trademark infringement, George said.
Shoppers clustered in the parking lot outside Levinsons 14K Thursday afternoon said they weren’t surprised to learn the store was being raided for carrying counterfeit goods.
“Everybody knew they sold that stuff,” said Shanda Chapman, as she stood in the Suffolk Plaza Shopping Center parking lot. Her cousin was inside Levinsons buying hair extensions when police went into the store and directed her to leave the building, she added.
“Police told her to stop what she was doing and to get out of the store,” she added. “There were a lot of customers in there at the time.”
