The driver of a tanker truck is dead after Monday morning’s accident that kept the U.S. Route 58 west bound off-ramp closed most of the day yesterday.
The accident occurred about 4 a.m., police said, when the loaded tanker overturned. It was loaded with fuel oil. The leak of fuel oil was minor and has been contained. The driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police detoured traffic from Holland Road onto Kilby Shores Drive, Turlington Road and Carolina Road while the wreck was cleaned up. The fuel oil had to be offloaded from the tanker truck before it could be uprighted.
