Third season of excitement

The Suffolk Center for Culture Arts third season is here, and it is sure to be a good one. Kicking off the concert series is the much-acclaimed High School Musical on Sunday Sept. 21.

The old Suffolk High School building, built in 1922, served as a beloved place of gathering and learning for thousands of students, parents, teachers, administrators and many others, until its doors were closed in 1990. Since opening its doors as the SCCA in 2006, it has received adornment from spectators and musicians alike.

The old school’s building, now renovated with cultural excitement, has seen up and coming musicians and entertainers. It is also responsible for putting Suffolk on the culture map around Hampton Roads.

This year’s schedule is full of great shows including American Idol favorite, Bo Bice, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the Bellamy Brothers. There are shows for the entire family like the High School Musical performance plus a great schedule slated for the holidays.

Suffolk should be proud to boast such a jewel like the SCCA. Let’s enjoy it, attend its shows and support what has become an anchor for our downtown revitalization.
